  • Install the yum security plugin.
  • Use the various yum commands to check for various levels of security iupdates.
  • Update the software on the servers.

Overview

In this lab, we install the yum security plugin, then use the various yum commands to check for various levels of security iupdates. We also update the software on the servers.

Use the following commands, and list the output to a file.  You may use any method to get the information in a file.

yum install yum-plugin-security

yum update info

yum updateinfo list

yum updateinfo list --sec-severity=Critical

yum updateinfo list --sec-severity=Moderate

 

Scenarios

You have been asked to check the server to see if there are any updates pending. You use various commands to examine what if any software needs to be updated.

Your manager wants a list of the software that needs updates (if any) so you need to export it to a file. This file would then later be emailed to your manager for his records.
