$ symbol

What does the $ symbol mean in $PATH and why do we capitalize after this?

    That lets the system know that what is after is a variable. Variables are typically capitalized to clearly differentiate them from other commands/values in Bash, however, it is not REQUIRED (although it is standard practice).

    Thanks Terrence!
