Setting up multi node elasticsearch cluster Learning Activity

The instructor added all 3 nodes in discovery.zen.ping.unicast.hosts. But, I think that only other 2 nodes private ips should be added, its own ip isn't required. Because if that node is down, when its up its not required to look for its own ip.

Another question, if one of the node goes down, is it gurantee that it will get same private ip when it gets up. If that's not the case then we have to update elasticsearch.yml file in other nodes.

You are correct about the 3 IPs. There is no "should" or "should not" rule here, however. I added all three for simplicity but in reality, the only IPs that "must" be there are the master-eligible node's IPs not counting the one you are already on.

The private IPs for your cloud servers are static so long as the server is not deleted and re-made. Starting and stopping your Linux Academy cloud servers will not change the private IP addresses.

As for learning activities, both your public and private IP addresses are static for the duration of the activity.
