Azure Lab

Use Traffic Manager to Route Between Two Web Apps

We deploy the real environment, you take the scenario-based labs on us. Hands-on, from anywhere, at any time.

Time required: 2 Hours

Scope

This lab is designed to familiarize you with Traffic Manager, Azure's DNS-based routing solution. Specifically, you will log in to the Azure portal and first view the two Web Apps that will serve as Traffic Manager profile endpoints, to see that they are in different geographic regions.

You will then assign those Web Apps as endpoints for Priority, Performance, Geographic and Weighted Traffic Manager profiles. After each profile assignment, you will view the Traffic Manager endpoint to see how your configuration affects which Web App you see on the Traffic Manager endpoint.

Suggested Pre Requisites

All of this lab will be performed through a Web browser, with all configuration being done through the Azure portal.

Overview

This lab teaches students the different kinds of routing profiles in Traffic Manager, Azure's DNS-based routing tool. You will see the four types of routing profiles -- Priority, Performance, Geographic and Weighted -- and how your configuration of these profiles affects what is shown through the Traffic Manager endpoint.

Scenarios

  • Assign Web App endpoints to a Priority Traffic Manager profile and view the results on the Traffic Manager endpoint.

  • Assign Web App endpoints to a Performance Traffic Manager profile and view the results on the Traffic Manager endpoint.

  • Assign Web App endpoints to a Geographic Traffic Manager profile and view the results on the Traffic Manager endpoint.

  • Assign Web App endpoints to a Weighted Traffic Manager profile and view the results on the Traffic Manager endpoint.
